This excursion will begin by heading for the town of Vila Franca do Campo. Here, you will enjoy a quick stop to taste the famous Queijadas da Vila, a traditional pastry, followed by a tour of Furnas with a stop at Parque Terra Nostra (*), to visit the world-renowned botanical garden. The tour will continue onto Lagoa das Furnas, where you will watch the preparation of Cozido das Furnas – a local speciality dish prepared by lowering the pot into a hot spring heated by volcanic steam. The food cooks slowly, for around 5 hours, and the only liquid used are the juices from the ingredients. This special dish, named after the village, will be served later for lunch. After lunch, the tour continues to Miradouro do Ferro, the Gorreana Tea Factory, the only tea plantation in Europe, and and Miradouro StªIria, from where you will be able to admire the beauty of the island’s northern coast, before returning to Ponta Delgada. *(Entrance included)
