Finikia village
The tranquil village of Finikia is located on the northern part of Santorini, 10 km northwest of the capital Fira, very close (1mile) to the world famous Oia. The village stands out for the colourful buildings, green vineyards and views of the neighboring islands.
In contrast to the architecture of Oia, where the houses are built in the the cave side of the caldera , the houses in Finikia are in harmony and consist of delightful yards, stairs and interesting facades. As you enter the village there is an impressive, big stone wall made of black volcanic rocks. In the village you can find some traditional taverns with local dishes and boutique hotels.
There are many chapels on the vineyards. The church of Agia Matrona, which was built in 1859, is the greatest attraction of Finikia. This remarkable church of ocher colour has a wondrous bell tower and the tall palm tree that adorns its yard is its hallmark. As a small, quiet settlement with picturesque streets and buildings it is a place of quiet and comfort yet only a few minutes away from the breathtaking but at times very busy Oia.
