Attard is a quiet area located between Mdina and Valletta in the central part of Malta.  Along with the towns Balzan and Lija, they form “the three villages” as they are so close to each other. In fact, one side of the street can be in one village and the opposite side could belong to another village. The local council in the Attard area are keen on caring for the many parks they have, such as San Anton Gardens that is surrounding the Presidents Palace. 

Due to Attard’s flower and citrus gardens, the villages motto in Florigera Rosis Halo, which is "I perfume the air with my blossoms" in English. Attard’s people are called saraċini, and about 10,300 people live in an area of 7 km2.

Attard: Things to do and see

San Anton Gardens: This botanical garden has been open to the public since 1882 for walks and picnics. It houses many beautiful flowers and an open courtyard, and also hosts floral shows and competitions.

San Anton Palace: This magnificent building was built between 1623 and 1636 to serve as a residence for Grand Master Antoine de Paule. Now it is the Maltese President’s official home.

The Parish Church: The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a 17th century building designed by Tumas Dingli.

Parish Museum: Contains works of art of the Parish Church

Aqueduct: This aqueduct was constructed in 1610 by Grand Master Wignacourt and was used to bring water from Rabat to Valletta. A large section of the 16-km stretch can still be seen in Attard, Malta.

Malta Railway Museum: The museum is open to the public on demand and exhibits documents, photographs and other souvenirs related to the railway system in Malta.

Ta´Qali: This a national park and sporting centre. It also has a vineyard called “Meridiana” and plenty of craft shops. The national football stadium is also located at Ta´Qali in Attard.

Villa Bologna: Villa Bologna was the residence of the prime minister of Malta, Lord Strickland between 1927 and 1930.  It is said to have the largest private garden of all of Malta. It is popular venue for weddings, fairs and parties.
