Corfu Town the capital of the island.  The capital has it all,history, shopping, museums, harbour, many sites to visit or just great place to stroll around.

A large influence can be seen in the buildings from the Venetian times, much that you see lining the streets is now protected and therefore permission is needed to even paint the outside.  The old part of the town is actually protected as it is on the list of Unesco world heritage sites.  Many more influences can also seen from the many countries that once occupied Corfu, such as the French who built the Liston, the British - the band stand and the cricket pitch.  Meander the back cobbled streets of Corfu to see much of the old way of life.

Shopping in Corfu town, Monday to Saturday the shops open from 09.00 till 13.30 and only on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday do they open again from 17.30 till 20.30.  many of the tourist shops around the old part of Corfu will be open 7 days a week  09.00 till 23.00.

Churches in Corfu town -  you will find many churches some larger than others dotted all around the capital, the most famous one being the church of St Spyridion, who is the patron Saint of the island.  Mostly they are Greek Orthodox but you will also find a Jewish synagogue, Christian church, Catholic church and Jehovahs witness meeting place. 

There are various museums around the town together with the two fortresses, horse drawn carriages and small tourist trains can be used to explore that surrounding areas also.
