This half day trip starts at 09.30 and returns at 14.30.
Departing from Nidri we visit the Dimassori Gorge and follow the path up to the Nidri waterfalls. Next we start to climb up into the mountains above Nidri stopping for excellent photo opportunities overlooking Nidri bay and its surrounding islands.
Our next stop is the Karia Folklore Museum where we can experience mountain village life from past times. Learn about "Thea Maria" and the Karia Stitch, something unique to Lefkada and now world famous. Next we climb to the highest point on Lefkada, a church called Profit Ilias (The Profit of the Sun) the highest point on Lefkada offering 360 degree views of the Island and surrounding mainland. On clear days you can just make out the islands of Paxos and Anti Paxos.
Lunch is spent in the mountain village of Karia where you can enjoy some of the traditional homemade cheese or spinach pies. You will have time for browsing the shops which sell the traditional wares of Karia such as honey, wine, carpets and decorative olive wood ornaments.
On our return to Nidri will will visit the ruins of the Red Tower Monastery and visit the grave of the last monk that lived there. We return to Nidri via another mountain road with photo stops offering more fantastic views.
