Full Day - Escorted Trip

A scenic drive from the northern coast to the South West through small picturesque villages such as Potamida, Topolia, Koutsomatados and many more, brings us to one of the most beautiful beaches of Crete.

On the way up, we will have our first stop in the gorge of Topolia, where we visit the church of Agia Sophia, built inside a large limestone cave. With a little luck you might spot a vulture in the sky!

We continue to the beautiful island of Elafonissi at the South Western end of Crete. 

Elafonisi has an oblong shape, which often "breaks" into two parts by water, giving the impression of it being a separate island. 

Elafonissi is a “Natura 2000” protected area. The island is full of dunes with sand lilies and junipers (like-cedar trees). 

The endangered turtles Caretta-Caretta and several rare animals are nesting on the island and it is strictly forbidden to remove any plants, animals from the area. Exotic beaches with white sand and turquoise waters, reminiscent of the Caribbean, are formed on either side of the peninsula. 

The sand is pinkish in many places, taking its colour from thousands of broken shells.

Near the “breaking" point of the peninsula, the water does not exceed 1m (3 feet) creating a small lagoon, ideal for children. 

You can easily cross the lagoon to reach the “island”, having your stuff with you, because the water is very shallow there.

Guests should bring swimming costumes, sun protection and definitely a camera.

At Elafonissi there are some mobile toilets. Guest can bring picnics with them or by drinks & snacks at the beach bar. 

There are no restaurants down at Elafonissi, the closest one is about a 20 min walk uphill.
