They were built by notables of those time for their names.Cisterns were used to store rainwater in places that were not included in the water system. There are many cisterns belonging to the Ottomans and are known today as ' Gumbet' at the most part of peninsula. The name of Gumbet town has come from 'Gumbet' cisterns.
