Butrinti is the ancient port of Buthrotum which dates back to the Hellenistic times and is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. If you are travelling to Albania and interested in history and culture then this is a must day out. You really need to employ a guide to appreciate this site, there is so much to learn. It's only a 30 min drive from Sarande and on the way back you can stop off for the local delicacy of mussels, every bit as good as the French do them. A Taxi from Sarande should cost in the region of €10 and its about €5 entrance fee. Our local agent Vasilis can help with arrangements.
