In winter and spring, thousands of migratory birds flock to the salt lakes of Larnaca, and the most amazing of them are pink flamingos. In summer, the lakes dry out and become covered with a thick crust of salt. From the 15th century to the 20th century, starting from Venetian rule, salt was mined here and sent to Europe for sale.
