A few kilometres from Molyvos lies the village of Petra, which offers a calm and quaint centre closed off to the local traffic. The sleepy backstreet's are reminiscent of the more traditional villages on the island, making it ideal for those seeking a taste of real Greece. Petra is built around a 100 ft rocky top which holds the church of Panagia Glykophilousa (Our Lady of the Sweet Kiss) at its summit. Along the front of the village lies a long beach and plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a cool drink after a long day of exploring. In the centre of Petra lies a very old Turkish house, reputedly the oldest house on the island of Lesvos.
