Molyvos is one of the main holiday resorts on the island of Lesvos, which is a couple of hour's drive from the capital, Mytilene. Molyvos is of great historical importance, being home to the ruins of a Genoese castle which sits on the top of a hill boasting stunning views out to the Turkish mainland. In 1965, the Mayor ruled that no other building material except natural stone was to be used, giving Molyvos its modern-day charm made up of village houses with red-tiled roofs and cobbled streets leading down towards a tiny fishing harbour offering an array of waterside restaurants and cafes.
