Corfu's
best preserved and oldest mountain village. Situated on the attractive
north east corner of the island, and just below Mount Pantokrator. The village, once inhabited by
approximately 1200 people, was one of the wealthiest on the island, surrounded
by vines, oak trees and thousands of sheep that roamed across the mountainside.
Now a deserted village and a must visit place. Most houses and public buildings
were built with the Venetian style. Today these houses are almost ruined, so
visitors will see broken window shutters, rusted doors, crumbling stone walls,
closed churches and gardens with broken flower pots. Only in the central square
of the village there is some life due to the few tavernas. Wonder the
cobbled streets, feel the airy atmosphere whilst taking some beautiful scenic
photos.
