Appropriately located in a bank, the museum is located on one floor of the historic building. The building itself dates back to the 1840's and was where the first Ionian Bank was founded.
Opened in 1981 the museum has on show not only bank notes and coins but also bonds that were used before the bank notes were used.
The oldest bonds on show date back to 1822 and the collection brings you through the years showing all the types of notes and coins used. Including everyone favourite the drachma, everyone used to think they were rich as you always had thousands, that was until you realised a 1000 drachma was equivalent to 3 pounds in the 1990's.
