This together with another two castles, Angelo Kastro and Gardiki are probably the most important in the history of Corfu.

The three castles formed a defensive triangle and were able to alert as soon as  attacks on the island we seen.

All three castles date back to the Byzantine era as early as the 3rd century, Historians state Kassiopi castle proved to be essential in the defence of the island from invasions from Italy, pirates from main land and Albania.

Today the castle has received many grants to renovate the ruins left by the Venetians in late 1780.  Its structure is quite astounding with 12 towers still standing tall.

Visitors will find the castle by walking through the old part of the village, sometimes thinking your in someone back garden.  Its free to enter but recommended good walking shoes and stones are slippery and loose.
