Zakynthos town is the island capital and the heart of the island. A great place to visit by day or even better by night when its cooler and the town is lit up. It offers an array of tempting shops, most of which are situated on the Alexandrou Roma which is shaded by Venetian arches. The harbour front is a fantastic place for a stroll there are still some local fisherman who sell fresh fish "catch of the day" from their boats. St Markos Square modelled on its Italien namesake has a good selection of cafes, tavernas and bars. Zakynthos town is also home to local museums, and the spectacular church of Agios Dionysis (St Denis). Perfect for those wanting to see some of the islands culture, a spot of shopping or sit back with the locals people watching whilst indulging in local greek cuisine.
Sundays you will find only the local souvenir shops open however plenty of tavernas and bars.
If you are looking for good food two of our favourites are Varkarola situated on the harbour front for your traditional Greek family taverna. Also Avli locates off Solomos square for a unique dining with quality food and quirky cuisines.
