The Venetian Fortress sits proudly protecting the town of Corfu for the once threatened invasions from the Turks.  Developed over the years by the countries occupying Corfu, dating back to the original build of a castle in the Byzantine era and then expanded by the Venetians in the 15th century.  Even the British built with in the walls during there occupation building a hospital for the troops.
Now connected to the island of Corfu the fortress is a must on your list of things to do while here in Corfu.  Inside the ancient stone walls you will find the library of Corfu, an English church decorated with Greek Orthodox icons and the cafe bar.  Many paths way will lead you to the hidden tunnels and dungeons and for the tough among us a walk to the very top will give you unbelievable views not only over Corfu but also over to the mainland of Greece.

Good shoes are recommended due to the vast amount of marble paths and a small entrance fee will be charged.
