Almost the entire park coincides with the outcrops of the basal complex of Fuerteventura, which occupy the western part of the island, which not only gives it an exceptional scientific interest but also imposes a chromatic and structural peculiarity throughout its surface. As a whole, it is a landscape of great beauty, impregnated with a certain traditional character and adorned at all times with unique elements that characterise the landscape of the area (ravines, hills, …). The rocks and massifs are home for many rock plants, with several endangered and protected species. There is no lack of introduced species such as Moorish Tobacco (Nicotiana Glauca), or even small populations of pine trees in the vicinity of Betancuria.

Other particular habitats, such as the wetlands of the Peñitas and Molinos damns, are of great faunal interest and the coastal and inland cliffs serve as a refuge for several threatened raptors.
