The Dominican church in Valletta is the parish church dedicated to Our Lady of Fair Heavens.
The church was built by Girolamo Cassar, and was declared "the principal parish and matrix of the whole of the new city" by Pope Pius V through his Apostolic Bull Ex Debito Pastoralis. It was later elevated to the dignity of a Minor Basilica, in 1816.
In 1693, the original church was ruined in an earthquake, and a new church was built and consecrated on the 15th October 1889. The first stone was laid on 19th April 1957
